Pierson, originally from West Virginia in the heart of Appalachia, embarked on his musical journey with classical training. He soon developed a deep appreciation for jazz, an influence instilled by his maternal grandparents, Iris Bell and Derek Pierson. Throughout his accomplished musical career, he has collaborated with numerous session and touring musicians in Nashville and Los Angeles, performing in a diverse range of venues, from informal street performances and piano bars to cruise ships and concert halls. Additionally, he has composed and taught music rooted in the jazz tradition. With 23 years of applied knowledge and experience as a piano teacher, he offers both virtual and in-person mentorship. His own musical compositions, encompassing both jazz and alternative rock, naturally incorporate elements from various genres. Since March 2021, he has been an active member of the Austin music scene, holding two steady residencies and, more recently, leading bands composed of musicians he personally selects to interpret his original music.
